Okay it is probably high time I got this written. First let me say up front that I am a Electrical Engineer and a licensed Private Pilot since 1978. I
graduated from Hawaii Air Academy located at PHNL airport. Have you ever been on a 3 mile final for 4L and have a 727 on a 10 mile final for
4R and you touch down side by side? Just a little intimidating to say the least! I have been using computers since the Radio Shack TRS 80
and still have a TI-994A in the closet that still worked the last time I hooked it up to a tv. I started simming on a green screen and the
software dates back to Flight Assignment ATP by Sublogic and I still have my original Dos 5 version of MSFS along with the great manuals
they printed back in those days. You may already think I am really old but we are only creeping up on 52 this month.
The most expensive computer system I ever bought was my first IBM clone, a 8088 at Best Buy when they were fairly new in Wichita Kansas
and it cost me around $1200, I thought it was really something. I have been a Extra Class Ham Radio Operator for 34 years and I had some
equipment on 1296 mhz back then and never thought computers would exceed what was considered exotic even for ham radio, that was
then and this is now!
I ran FS9.1 on a 3 Ghz P4 Prescott with 2 Gb of ram and a 256 Mb PCIE 1.0 ATI Radeon and it worked very well but then came FSX and alas,
it was not bad as long as you kept the sliders down and enjoyed 15 Fps and I used it like this for a while. I knew it was a cpu limited problem
but I still bought a Nvidia 512 Mb PCIE 2.0 9800 GT and had to install in a PCIE 1.0 slot on the Intel 915PBL mobo and it was better than the
Radeon but still not great. So in March of of 09, I started researching computer builders and had not really kept up on all the changes from
the P4 days. I bought some computer magazines locally and found out that the Intel Core i7 was all the rage these days along with the Nvidia
GTX 200 series GPU'S. Now I knew what I had to have to run FSX. I also was a subscriber to PC Pilot and Computer Pilot and found a couple
of companies in Europe but I did not want to pay the exchange rate to get one of these. I had settled on a company called Digital Storm as
probably being the best to make my next purchase from and then one day while looking at Computer Pilot, I saw an add for Jetline Systems. I
called DS first and the sales person was actually knowledgeable about their product line and was pretty much set to buy but then I made the
2nd call that day to Jetline Systems and everything changed at that point!
I got to talk to some Ex Airforce guy named Greg who again knew his equipment but he also knew all about MSFS. Oh yea, I was impressed
it was like he could read my mind? I told him what DS was going to do for me and he said let me work up a quote for you. This all took place
in the morning and I spent some time looking around at their website and found out that these guys eat, sleep and breathe FS. He called
back that afternoon and had emailed me the quote as well so I had my mind made up when he called and I told him to build it.. This was like
a once in a lifetime buy for me because it was going to be the most expensive computer I had ever bought but I fully had the wife's approval..
Okay so here is what I got in the Xjett 795.
EVGA SLI mother board with core i7 950 CPU OC of 3.6 Ghz with Asetek liquid cooling. Did the 950 because was not sure what kind of
overclock overhead the 920 had, ( who would have figured over 4 Gig ) oh well live and learn. Silver Stone 1200 Watt power supply, built like
a Abrams Tank. 6 Gb or Corsair XMS3 certified for 1600 Mhz along with Vista 64 to take advantage of extra memory. I had Windows 7 Home
Prem on order from Amazon since June for $49.95 Used the release candidate since it was first available and it is like Xp Pro on Steroids,
simply the best Microsoft has done yet. I recently did a clean install on my second drive and now dual boot Vista or W7 both 64 bit. W7 gives
even better benchmarks and FSX and FS9.1 (2004) with sp run great along with all of my addon Fs software. EVGA GTX 285 Standard non
overclocked video card, Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium sound card. On a Saitek Headset and Carenado 182Q, the sound is just unbelieveable!
Dual Seagate Barracuda 32 Mb Cache 1.5 Tb 7200 Rpm drives, 22X DVD/CD burner. Thermaltake M9 series deluxe case with see thru side
and plenty of led fans. CH Products, Yoke and Rudder Pedals and a Buttkicker mounted on a high back leather office chair. Oh almost forgot
Trackir 4.
If I left anything out, I do not know what it would be. FSX ran like a champ. As a matter of fact FSX Gold installs with all sliders set to Max
Right. On a 22 inch Acer DVI 1680 X 1050 Fps can remain constant at over 50 and most of the time over 60 however, in dual monitor mode, 2
Acers just alike, is pushing it. GTX 285 Max resolution is 2560 X 1600 and I am asking for 3360 X 2100. With Ultimate Terrain X installed and
set to give very realistic ground scenery, you can fly smooth in dual monitor mode, Cockpit on left and Spotplane view on right at 20 to 25 Fps.
FPS doe not really mean a lot, it's how smooth it flys that is really important and FSX is really forgiving when below 24 Fps as a minimum
standard.
Unforntunately the truth must be told, my first Mobo lasted about a week and a half. It made a small pop and I could smell electronic smoke
smell and it would not post after that. Once smoke is let out pretty much all electronics is good as a boat anchor. I called Greg and he sent
me a Fed X pickup the same day. The Vreg temps had been kind of high on this board. They turned it around within a week and I got a new
EVGA X58 LE Mobo and it is even better looking than the first one. At first, I was a little miffed that it was a slightly cheaper board, not as many
Sata Ports, 1 pci instead of 2 and there is no IDE port but this is really minor stuff. It turns out that ever where I look at reviews on this board, it
almost always gets 5 out of 5 stars. The guys even did some rearrangement of cooling fans and I now have a screamer and Prime 95 is
happy with all temps staying in Spec. I looked at a Corsair Video of a comparison between liquid cooling and air at a oc of around 3.9 Ghz on
a 965EE and my temps do not get as high as theirs did but they let it run over night on P95 and it was still running the next morning with core
temps between 76 to 78 C on the H50 cooler which is a modified Asetek. The air unit only ran 12 minutes and got a BSOD.
I have since overclocked my unit and added another Thermaltake 5.25 inch drive bay with another blue led fan to the top front of my case and
put the dvd drive in the bottom of my case. Both side panel fans have been remounted to exhaust. We have rear air being pulled in and
pushed thru the radiator, both top and middle front fans pulling air in and dual exhaust fans in the side panel. The exhaust air is now luke
warn and not hot anymore compared to before at idle. The Vreg and North Bridge temps are the best they have been due to better air flow
over the main part of the Mobo. The GPU temps are down as well. Oh my overclock is now 3.784 Ghz with memory running at 1585 Mhz. It is
rock solid now on P95, Intel Burn test and Everest Benchmarks as well. Vcore is 1.14 volts loaded and VTT or uncore at 1.30. I am one happy
camper. I also use Passmark for my normal benchmarking just because we used it on the old P4 and know the software. On the Passmark
website, I am near the top for i7 950's with GTX 285's. I outrun a local non overclocked 975EE on air even though it is a beautiful build in the
biggest case I have ever seen, Thermaltake Mozart Tx and he is using a GTX 295 but had a monitor driver issue the day we took a look at
PCpitstop Full Test with him and he had a copy of my numbers for the same test and he got smoked on CPU and GPU. I felt good for me but
bad for him since he owns the only computer store in town. He is now more interested in overclocking and liquid cooling because he now
knows what his machine is capable of. Oh his Western Digital 2 Tb 64 Mb cache drives did beat mine, but it was not a earth shaking win
there either.
Ok this has to end somewhere. Greg and his crew have went above and beyond the call to duty to take care of me and I have a great
machine. Everest Benchmarks put me over the 965EE that has a very modest overclock in their listings and I end up right below the Opteron
and Zeon dual cpu class servers. Wow this is way cool. I will be a customer of Jetline Systems for as long as they keep the same attention to
customer service and detail in their builds that they currently have. The new Hell Fire line looks really great and maybe I should have waited
another 3 or 4 months to get one of these babies but hey I don't think I could get a better rig for FSX other than cool cosmetic changes. Oh
don't be surprised if when you get to talk to that ex Airforce guy and later find out he is the CEO of Jetline Systems he is very modest. By the
way changing the phone number on the back of Computer Pilot from 1-888 My Jetline to show the actual phone number was my suggestion
to Greg. I hate converting those letters into phone numbers on the touchpad and he said he did too and he would take care of it and that was
that. I wish Jetline years of continued success and if my wife would move, I would go down to Florida and apply for a job at this great
company!!!!
